Hair Colour vs Balayage — What's Right for You

These two get mixed up a lot, and asking for the wrong one can mean a very different result than you wanted. Here's the plain-language difference.

Full hair colour

Full colour means your whole head of hair is coloured to one consistent shade, root to tip. It's the right choice if you want a complete change — going noticeably lighter, darker, or a different tone entirely — and you're comfortable with regular root touch-ups every few weeks as your natural colour grows in.

Balayage

Balayage is a hand-painted highlighting technique that adds lighter tones through the mid-lengths and ends, leaving the roots closer to your natural colour. It grows out much more gracefully than full colour or traditional highlights, so it needs touch-ups far less often — usually every few months instead of every few weeks.
